Melissa Essential Oil - qualities & uses

Melissa officinalis, also known as lemon balm or balm gentle is a member of the mint family. It received the name Melissa because of its sweet, citrussy fragrance and plentiful nectar supply which bees love (Melissa is derived from the Greek word μέλισσα for honeybee).

Melissa is a highly sought after and precious oil with soothing, calming qualities for body and soul, due to the chemical constituents of geraniol and neral.

To feel calm & collected put a few drops of melissa in your palms, cup your hands over your nose and mouth and inhale slowly 4 times. Feel the lightness as the heaviness disperses. Melissa oil is great for calming stress and easing tension so you can really shine.

For a good night’s sleep and sweet dreams, diffuse melissa next to your bed with lavender and apply diluted to your shoulders and chest – melissa is also known to rejuvenate and soothe your skin.

To support your immune system add a drop to tea or under your tongue.

From an emotional perspective melissa is the Oil of Light, inviting us to release everything that holds us back so we can reach our fullest potential. It teaches the joy of living, encouraging us to be inspired, to shed our burdens, feel bright and optimistic.

Sourcing

Melissa is another wonderful co-impact sourcing story that you can read about at https://sourcetoyou.com/en/stories/story/melissa . It is grown in Dobrich, Bulgaria where dōTERRA created its Esseterre facility. Now small farmers in the region can bring their crops here to be distilled and tested for quality on site and are paid immediately – unlike in the past. The area is now booming and socially thriving with over 2300 lives impacted. So whenever you use your melissa you can imagine all those people who’s lives, in a way, you have brightened.
